![]() But still, it doesn’t matter – his zaniness just left a great impression, as did the original John Tenniel illustrations of him. The Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, hell even the Duchess gets more page-time than he does. He’s just so memorable, despite the fact that he doesn’t get any more focus in the original book than most of the other strange characters Alice meets. How I feel about this character: I think most people would list the Hatter as one of their favorite characters from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and I’m definitely in the majority. I’m assuming you mean the Wonderland versions – I’m afraid I can’t comment very much on the DC comics villain. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Again, Burton – you should’ve known better.Īsk me character profile opinion the queen of hearts alice's adventures underground alice's adventures in wonderland alice in wonderland ever after high tim burton disney the royal ballet the royal opera house the red queen My unpopular opinion about this character: It does drive me mad when people mistakenly call the Queen of Hearts the Red Queen and vice-versa. In Ever After High, I like her relationship with Lizzie. My non-romantic OTP for this character: In most of the adaptations, she’s funny when she interacts with Alice. It is very entertaining.Īll the people I ship romantically with this character: Noooo one. What’s fun about her in the ballet is that she does a comedic parody of the most famous ballet routine ever choreographed, Princess Aurora’s Rose Adagio from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty. ![]() Originally posted by vaganovaballetandmoreĪnd yes, that Wonderland ballet by the Royal Ballet also had the Queen of Hearts. That is a bit strange to me, but hey – the show is marketed for kids. ![]() I like her pretty well – she definitely keeps her child-like aspect from the books, though of course she’s a pretty good mama too. ![]() Now in Ever After High, the Queen of the Hearts is the mom of my personal favorite character, Lizzie Hearts. She also, like the Hatter, has a political cause rather than being her regular Chaotic Neutral book self. In some ways, the “Red Queen,” performed by Helena Bonham Carter, is truer to the Queen of Hearts character from the book than Disney’s animated version, like in design and childishness – but then again, she’s called the bloody Red Queen, who is NOT. It makes it almost impossible for me to really like her. But Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland gets the two even more conflated than the Disney animated film, and I confess, it drives me friggin’ insane. The second best-known version of the Queen of Hearts is, funnily enough, not even called the Queen of Hearts, but the Red Queen. She is one of the funniest villains in the Disney canon, in my opinion – her reactions are just so fast and her mood swings are so extreme, I can’t help but laugh at her. That being said, though, there is a good reason why the Disney version has permiated the public subconscious more than the book version – it’s a very funny, memorable adaptation. Disney’s version also resembles the Duchess and the Red Queen much more visually. The Queen from the book is much more like a child – her stock phrase, and reaction to everything, is “OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!” It shows a lack of intelligence and deep thought in the book character. She does lose her temper like the original book Queen does, but she also has a very bossy and manipulative aspect and puts on an air of superiority and pleasantry that the book Queen never does. This isn’t to say I don’t like the Disney version, but it really is an amalgamation of the original Queen of Hearts character, the Duchess, and the Red Queen from Carroll’s sequel book Through the Looking Glass. Unfortunately, rather like the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, her public identity has been corrupted a bit by the best known film adaptation of her character, which of course is the Disney version. How I feel about this character: Like the Hatter, the Queen of Hearts is one of the most recognizable figures from the novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
